IRAQ Attack - Hardwick   Catalogue Number BPP 0049

The song Iraq Attack was penned in 1991 as a stream of consciousness. The lyric fitted with a bass line I had been carrying for a few months, as if
the two were meant for each other. The original version was recorded quickly using programmed drums and FX`s, as well as the extreme musical talents of Raff on guitar. De is the voice of the ``gas up Girls``, and Linn is the voice of the radio operator. However the song never saw the light of day, the war finished, before the song was complete.

The song underwent several attempts at rewriting, nothing seemed to work and it finally ended up in the archive as an incomplete work. Strangely, after 12 years the war returned.
{bit like yo-yo`s - every generation need to play with a yo-yo for a week or so} The archive gave up a few pieces of the original recording. The bass, guitar, fx`s and voices survived their journey through time. And, what luck, all the lyrics in the original version remained totally relevant 12 years later, all the names and places were the same.. good lord, who would believe such a coincidence.

Driven by a sense of divine order I embarked on the completion of the work. Gene came in on the drums and gave the song renewed punch. Dave brought a new sense of swing with his bass. Alan set the scene with his speech. Richard gave menace to the gas up girls with his vocal. Dave also felt there needed to be a appearance from the banjo, and made it so, much to general delight.

The mix took ages as balance after balance ended in tears, until, well you be the judge. If the war ends before the song reaches the people this time, you might be excused for thinking that just the threat of a topical song is enough to scare the dark forces back to whence they came. How different a world this would be if that were the case. ``all you need is love`` We as a race [Humanity] are accountable to the next generation for our actions today. -

“When I was at school, I opted to sing the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus with the choir as it was a way to avoid compulsory service with the Army Cadets,” says Michael Hardwick, the artist behind the newly released musical satire ‘Iraq Attack’.

When future wife, Deanne introduced her 19-yr-old boyfriend to the guitar in the early eighties, Hardwick soon opted out of a 3rd year engineering degree to pursue a more challenging career path … music. "Music, resented a way of expanding my understanding across a number of disciplines."

Hardwick first made his impact on the industry during the mid 80’s to early 90’s with Blah Blah Blah, a Sydney based band that released a number of singles and clips, had radio and TV appearances, and was even the inspiration for the title of Andrew Denton’s first TV series for which the band wrote the theme song.

After the band disassembled, a somewhat “lost” Hardwick, performed as a solo acoustic guitar act for a number of years. He then teamed up with other talented musicians
forming The Lovers and finally Seeder who will soon be releasing a new album. Also during this time, Hardwick honed his skills 'behind the scenes’, producing a number of recordings and (in the late eighties) started Underfoot Records a small indie label.
Another of Hardwick’s major contributions to the Australian music industry is Club Acoustica. "During the mid-nineties, I founded Club Acoustica in Sydney as an event to present original music in acoustic mode. This was a new approach to live music that has since caught on throughout the scene." Club Acoustica has showcased independent artists in all Australian capital cities and selected regional venues.

Hardwick’s latest release, ‘Iraq Attack’, a hotter-than-a-burning-oilfield musical satire, was launched on May Day to a global audience and is distributed digitally on-line as an audio or video download file on
