ABOUT STICKLEBACK
Ben Heppel aka 'Stickleback' , started his music career at 15, playing his first gig as a lead guitarist in an unknown local band. He progressed quickly and formed Hanover Street, who soon became 'the' band on the local music scene, winning 'Battle of the Bands' in 1996 and consequently gaining a first release. After playing a variety of gigs including GLASTONBURY Festival 3 times and supporting Hot Chocolate, the band ran its course and Ben started to focus more on electronic music.
Ben had another chance at live music with Headbound, who quickly released an album and subsequently toured extensively, playing at the MIDEM music festival in Cannes, France and the famous WOMAD festival, to name a couple in a large tour that included about 80 gigs in the year 2000. Ben also promoted his own club night in Bristol, England called "Unique". It gave unknown producers the chance to play their music out in a club situation. Today, Ben is an experienced writer / producer who likes to push the boundaries of Dub, Funk, Latin, Breakbeat and Drum and Bass.
In 2000, Ben got his first release as 'Stickleback' on Slalom Recordings, a compilation album of UK producers. Now to 2004 and Ben has since created mix's for the world leading Aussie independent " Blue Pie Productions " ... Damien Reilly says he is one of the greatest exports to land on Australia's shores since Moby paid us a visit. He will be a major force in INDIGENOUS music for many years to come. Ben is in great company with projects underway for Blue pie's indigenous label " INDIGENOUS BLUE " and for artists like Grammy winner " Janice Marie " , Blue Pie's Sahra , working with Australia's leading indigenous artist " David Hudson " .
2005 is the year the world music of Stickleback makes its way to the airwaves. Ben is working with some of the worlds best including Senegal's own Seydina Insa Wade, David Hudson, Janice Marie and Dorinda Hafner to name a few with more productions gigs on the way.
